Elma Chamber of Commerce Presents Bayview Building Materials with Business of the Quarter Award
The Elma Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors presented the Business of the Quarter Award, for the fourth quarter of 2012, to Rick Jensen and Bayview Building Materials. The plaque was presented at Guesthouse Inn & Suites during the Elma Chamber of Commerce general membership meeting on November 14th.
Bayview Building Materials was presented the award based on enhancement to Elma and support of the business community. Bayview Building Materials opened in 1961 by well known veteran Bob Bush. Rick Jensen and partner Jim DePretto purchased the business in 2003. Many improvements have been made to the store including a new entrance and a large storage building for plywood and other materials.
Rick and Jim are planning the next phase of improvements in 2013, which includes a new addition and complete remodel. They plan to add 4,000 sq. ft. to the store and a greenhouse. Bayview Building Materials currently has 18 employees.
Bayview Building Materials supports the community in numerous ways. They sponsor a little league baseball team, 4-H Youth Livestock Auction, as well as many other youth activities. Bayview Building Materials participate in and sponsor chamber events and activities including the Wine & Seafood Festival, City-Wide Garage Sale, Heat on the Street Car Show, Buckaroo Days and Downtown Trick or Treat. Rick Jensen has served on the Elma Chamber Board of Directors for two years and serves as president this year.
Bayview Building Materials has been a major contributor to restoration of the Elma Visitors Station. They have donated materials and discounted materials throughout the restoration efforts. The block bench in front of the new reader board was donated by Bayview Building Materials.
